THE VICIOUS CYCLE OF LAZINESS

It’s been a while since I wrote about being lazy. I know, I know, I wrote about it already, but I did mention in my welcome post that I'd center my blog stories around topics that pop up in my day-to-day life. So today, I’m going to write about the vicious cycle of laziness.

Do you ever wonder why you’re so lazy? Or do you look back and wonder, "How did I even get here?" You do? It’s perfectly fine; a lot of us wonder as well. This is the first and most important part of the vicious cycle of laziness- realization.

Do you then think of ways you can fix that? Make up your mind to do better. A to-do list, waking up earlier? Anything to make you feel better at the end of the day. You do? That’s amazing; you’ve successfully made it to the second stage of the cycle- resolution.

Do you then work on your resolutions and put them into action? Watch yourself become more efficient and meet up with deadlines faster. I’m pretty sure you felt really good after this; it happens to the best of us. You’re going farther into the cycle, and this stage is- making amends.

After some time, did you find loopholes in your schedule? You couldn’t cover half of the things on your to-do list, and it simply became a page of undone work? Or did you snooze your five alarms and wake up too late to achieve most of what you were meant to? This stage of the cycle is known as- relapse.

Finally, did you give up on the entire plan to become hardworking and revert to your old lazy self? Did you also tell yourself that being hardworking wasn’t for everyone when you realized you had achieved nothing the whole day? Did you feel a pang of guilt as your tired eyes traveled to your old to-do list? Did you also wish the guilt away and put your lazy head on your pillow to get some rest? You did? Wow! Congratulations, lazy one! This is the final stage of the vicious cycle of laziness- acceptance.

Dearest lazy one,

I honestly cannot believe you have come this far! I thought I was all alone on this draining roller coaster! The cycle never ends, does it?

Unfortunately, I have no words of encouragement for you today. Get your lazy self up and reduce the things on your to-do list!
