YOUR STORY REMAINS BORING UNTIL YOU SUCCEED

Have you ever watched a movie where so many bad things kept happening over and over and you just thought to yourself, "Can we get to the good part?" Or read a book where its characters were faced with so much adversity that you began to wonder: Does it ever get better? Well, it happens to me all the time. I mean, I know life is sad, but life can’t be bad to you all the way; there has to be some nice points even if they aren’t so many.

It's the same as telling your story: telling people how much life has been mean to you and how much you’ve struggled with challenges. No offense, but sometimes your listeners are anxiously anticipating "the good part," like, "Yeah, I’ve heard your sad story; is that it? Anything else? No? Alright then, so sorry about your sad story, and I hope you get it all together soon."

The truth is, the world has heard more than enough sad stories; it’s getting tired of hearing them. But I kid you not, the world never gets tired of hearing successful stories. Sure, your listeners can relate to your challenges, but they want more than just to sympathize with you; they want to be sure the light at the end of the tunnel is still shining and that if they try hard enough, they’ll see it too.

So, if you think nobody’s really interested in your story, you might have to review it and, more importantly, rewrite it. This time, don’t focus on your challenges, but let them be the basis of your success, and you just might be surprised at how your former uninterested audience ends up listening eagerly to your story, which was once dismissed as boring!

Bottom line is this: Your story remains boring until you succeed, so do just that!

  3. Well, in contrast, people tell their success stories more. Everyone hides the struggles and only announce the wins.

    1. Hi Anonymous, thank you so much for this perspective. I agree that people are eager to tell their success stories, but we can't say authoritatively that
"everyone" hides their struggles. I believe that as much as there are people who keep their struggles to themselves, there are also people who share their struggles with others.
On a slightly unrelated note, this post is not an attack on those who share their struggles with others. It is simply a prompt to look beyond your challenges and to work harder towards your desired goals.
